You may be used to me suggesting fabulous children’s books which is something that I love and am passionate about. I do, however, enjoy wasting the day away with a great historical fiction or maybe something that Reese Witherspoon or Oprah suggested.

Hi! My name is Becky and I am the Community Development and Programming Librarian here at the library. The three genres I specialize in are Science Fiction and Fantasy, Young Adult and Movies and TV shows.

I love how Science Fiction and Fantasy allows me to reflect on the ways people interact with each other, with technology and with our environment. The Harry Potter series will always be my favourite Fantasy books no matter how old I get. For Science Fiction my most recent favourite is Recursion by Blake Crouch.

For me, the defining characteristic of Young Adult literature is emotional truth. Even if we’re not the same as the characters we read, they are all dealing with things - issues of who they are, who they should be, what they should and shouldn’t do - that we all deal with in our own ways.

I am also a huge Movie and TV show buff! Some of my favourite shows that I’ll happily re-watch are Sons of Anarchy, Parks and Recreation and Grey’s Anatomy. For movies I’ll always be a diehard romantic comedy fan. Put on Second Act, Legally Blonde or a Simple Life and I am hooked!

Hi, I'm Chris! I'm a Customer Service Associate at NFPL, and my genre specialities are Mystery, Romance, and Video Games

I've always been a fan of mysteries, mostly because of the drama and intrigue that exists around every corner. I love the dastardly villains, the twists and turns, and the unexpected revelations, all coming together in a parlour scene that ties everything up in a neat little bow!

When it comes to Romance, I say the cheesier the better! Time travelling Vikings turned Navy SEALs travelling back to their medieval village to rescue their sweetheart? Sure! Repo men with military training falling for the pregnant amnesiac he rescued from a cult? Why not! As long as it has a happy ending, I can make peace with just about anything!

As for Video Games, I've always been a fan of Nintendo games, myself, but I'll give anything the old college try! I recently completed the remake of Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch, and it was as cute as it was entertaining!

Hi, my name is Laura and I'm the IRC Librarian here at NFPL. The three genres I specialize in are Literary Fiction, Non-fiction, and Music.

In terms of Literary Fiction, I'll basically read anything as long as the writing is good. Is the story set in the past? Sure, I'll read it. Set in the future? Sure. Featuring lovable characters? Sure. Featuring horrible characters. Sure. Dramatic? Scary? Funny? Quirky? Romantic? Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure! Just don't make me read it if the author can't string a proper sentence together.

My Non-fiction choices usually involve nature, travel, and/or social issues. However, I do occasionally dabble in biographies and memoirs, essays, history, philosophy, pop-science/psychology, and poetry.

My musical taste is similarly diverse. I'm open to any genre - from classical to alternative, from punk to folk - and I'm always on the lookout for something new.

Hi, I’m Steph and I’m a Customer Service Associate at NFPL. The three genres I specialise in are Graphic Novels, Horror, and Cookbooks.

When it comes to Graphic Novels, I like funny comic strips, and stories with bright, quirky artwork. But, if I’m feeling a bit deeper, I’ll go for a memoir, or something with dark, brooding black and whites.

For horror, I can’t say no to a haunted house novel. Is there a menacing housekeeper? Perfect. Are the sprawling grounds covered in a thick fog? Excellent. Psychological horror is another go-to for me. I love the whole “is-this-real-or-all-in-their-heads” theme.

When I’m not reading, I’m recipe-testing. I’ll try any veggie-forward cookbook, and I’m always looking for a chocolate chip cookie recipe to rival my own. Humble brag: I haven’t found one yet! There’s nothing better than borrowing a cookbook before you buy it; it’s saved me from so much disappointment.
