Preschool Early Literacy Programs

Winter Programs flyer

Niagara Falls Public Library offers Early Literacy Programs for all ages - find the one that's right for you!

Register at any NFPL location. Registration opens December 1st for the winter 2018 session. Programs run from January 15th - February 26th.

Literacy programs at Niagara Falls Public Library are FREE.
Registration is required, either in person at any NFPL location, by phone at 905-356-8080 or online.


Bouncin' Babytime

For the youngest babies and their adult caregivers. If you're not yet walking and talking, this is the program for you! Come and have fun with music, rhymes, tickles and bounces. Bring a blanket and let us introduce you and your baby to a variety of board books and activities.

20-30 minutes.

Just for Tots

For babies who are walking and talking and their adult caregivers. Join us for songs, stories, music and activities.

30 minutes.

Time for 2s and 3s

For toddlers and preschoolers ready for a longer, more active program and their adult caregivers. Develop pre-literacy skills with books, songs, games, rhymes, movies, crafts and creative play.

45 minutes.

Learn and Play Group

All ages, drop-in. Hang out with other parents while your children play, and take the opportunity to talk to local experts about all things parenthood related.

60 minutes.

Snugglebug Storytime

For children of all ages and their adult caregivers.Come with your little ones ready to snuggle up and enjoy some bedtime stories. Pajamas encouraged. Please register all participating children - babes in arms do not require registration.

30 minutes. 

Cocoa Club

Ages 8+ Need a break after school? Want to relax, unwind and enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate? Join us for our great read-aloud chapter book program. You bring the mug and your imagination. We will provide the hot chocolate and a great read.

45 minutes. Parents do not attend the program.

Cocoa Club Jr.

Ages 5-7. Need a break after school? Want to hear stories, play games and enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate? Join us for our Cocoa Club, Jr. program! You bring the mug and your imagination. We will provide the hot chocolate, great stories and games.

45 minutes. Parents do not attend the program, but must stay in the Library.


Dancing to the Beat Kids' Dance Party

Put on your dancing shoes and come join us for a dance party for kids of all ages.

Creating With Code for Kids

This session will spotlight the fundamentals of coding and explore its applications. Topics will include game-building, basic animation, simple programming and robotics. Learners will use Swift, Scratch and Java, while working with our fleet of robots (Ozobot, Dash and Dot, Cue, Sphero). 
8 years+

Come Build With Me Lego Robotics

The program is designed for child and caregiver to work together to learn the basics of robotics building and coding to make your project come to life.

Lego Robotics - Advanced

Have you mastered the beginner Lego WeDo builds and are ready for more? Explore our new Lego Wedo 2.0.
Ages 8+ with Lego WeDo experience.

Therapy Tails

Read to a dog, hang out with a dog or hug a dog - the Therapy Tails dogs are ready for everything. Girl and dogPerfect for children who are nervous around dogs, looking for some sensory input, need practice reading out loud or just want to hang out and relax with these furry friends.
All ages. No registration required.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a fun weekly reading program that gives children one-to-one reading practice with a teen volunteer. Buddies read together and enjoy fun activities that promote confidence, interest and the joy of reading!

P.D. Day Drop-In Fun

Game Time with the Frugal Dutchman

Game Time with the Frugal Dutchman is a new Program. The Frugal Dutchman is a locally owned store in Ridgeway. He will be visiting the Victoria Avenue Library once a week to run Pokemon, Dungeon & Dragons and board game sessions with kids and tweens.
