Preschool Early Literacy Programs

Niagara Falls Public Library offers Early Literacy Programs for all ages - find the one that's right for you!

Literacy programs at Niagara Falls Public Library are FREE.
Registration is required, either in person at any NFPL location, by phone at 905-356-8080 or online.


Come and have fun with music, rhymes, tickles and bounces. Bring a blanket and let us introduce you and your baby to a variety of board books and activities.

Summer Tots

For babies who are walking and talking and their adult caregivers. Join us for songs, stories, music and activities.

Summer 2s and 3s

For toddlers and preschoolers ready for a longer, more active program and their adult caregivers. Develop pre-literacy skills with books, songs, games, rhymes, movies, crafts and creative play.

Creation Station

All ages. Glue and sparkles and paper, oh my! Join us for our Creation Station program to turn your imagination into art! We'll supply all the creative materials you'll need to make something dazzling.

For children of all ages and their adult caregivers. Come join us at the Niagara Falls History Museum for stories, songs, games and rhymes.
Program is offered at the Niagara Falls History Museum, 5810 Ferry Street. Fee for parking.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

All ages. Bring your favourite stuffed animal for a story and games, then leave them in the library for the night. come get them in the morning, but don't forget to check our social media to see what kind of mischief they get up to when no one is watching.

TD Summer Reading Club 2019

All ages. School's almost done, but kids can keep reading all summer long with this year's TD Summer Reading Club. For your free registration kit, stop by any library location. The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada's biggest bilingual summer reading program, where kids of all ages, interests and abilities can read books, have fun and earn prizes. Back by popular demand: read for beads! Build your own personalized bead necklace, bracelet or keychain one book at a time. Complete a challenge and earn a limited-edition Summer Reading Club Brag Tag.

Read Away Your Fines

Read Away Your Fines is a program for children and teens 0-17 years to help encourage reading.

For every 15 minutes of reading done, $1.25 is waived off a child's or teen's library account. Up to $5.00 can be waived per day.

Please pick up your Read Away Your Fines form to take home when you check out your books. Return it signed and we'll waive the amount.

Summer Reading Drop-In Fun

Therapy Tails

All ages. Read to a dog, hang out with a dog or hug a dog - the Therapy Tails dogs are ready for everything. Girl and dogPerfect for children who are nervous around dogs, looking for some sensory input, need practice reading out loud or just want to hang out and relax with these furry friends.

Reading Buddies

Age: Grades 1 and up. Reading Buddies is a weekly reading support program that gives children one-to-one reading practice with a teen volunteer. Buddies have fun reading together and enjoy activities that build confidence and a love of reading. Reading Buddies runs during the school year from September to June.

Board Game Café

Get your game face on and check out the library's new collection of board games. Try out a new game or play one of the classics. With over 50 board games, you'll be sure to find a favourite.

St. John Ambulance Home Alone

The Home Alone program teaches participants how to deal with emergencies and other potentially serious situations as well as phone calls and visitors, recognize hazards and follow home safety procedures. They will also learn first aid basics, healthy eating, fire safety and how and when to use 911. Ages 9 years and up.

St. John Ambulance - Babysitting Basics

Developed by a team of child care professionals, trained babysitters, St. John Ambulance instructors and parents, this course teaches new babysitters the skills necessary to care for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. It emphasizes safety, dealing with emergencies and first aid basics.
