Spring Is Here!
It’s an exciting time of year. The weather is changing and the Niagara Falls Farmers’ Market is set to open this weekend, Saturday, May 15. The Farmers’ Market has been a fixture in Niagara Falls for more than a century. Once located off Queen Street, and then to its permanent location off of Sylvia Place, adjacent to the Niagara Falls Museum. The market’s deep roots in the community are evident by the wide variety of vendors and talents present every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The temporary location at the MacBain Community Centre is a perfect place to select what you need in fresh produce, baking, crafters and of course the Library! Drop by the Library’s table, to find Library information, pick up Library materials and seeds. When you are selecting your library materials, you can now select the NF Farmers’ Market as a pick up location. Seeds for planting are also available and can be picked up there as well by selecting the market as a pick up location on the Seed to Seed order form. Find the seed form here.
Board games are back! You can borrow board games from any of our 4 locations with your library card. We have a selection of over 60 titles ranging from family classics like Scrabble and Jenga to Spiel des Jahres winners like Settlers of Catan and Machi Koro. Board Games are a great way to reduce screen time and interact face-to-face with family and friends. They also help build important skills like comprehension, problem solving, and literacy. Most importantly though, playing board games is a sure way to have a whole lot of fun!
Just in time for spring and summer our Nature Kits are available to borrow once again. Get ready to explore the beautiful outdoors. These kits are available to borrow from Victoria Avenue, Community Centre and Chippawa Libraries and are aimed at children aged 4-10 (parental supervision advised). Each kit includes tools like a compass, a magnifying glass, a set of coloured pencils, and a booklet with instructions and activity suggestions, among other things. The Nature Kits also come in clear adjustable backpacks so that you can easily take them with you on your next adventure! Funded by the Niagara Healthy Kids Community Challenge.
