Preschool Early Literacy Programs

Niagara Falls Public Library offers Early Literacy Programs for all ages - find the one that's right for you!

Register at any NFPL location. Fall programs run from October 9th to November 19th. Registration opens September 4th.

Literacy programs at Niagara Falls Public Library are FREE.
Registration is required, either in person at any NFPL location, by phone at 905-356-8080 or online.

 


Babytime

For the youngest babies and their adult caregivers. If you're not yet walking and talking, this is the program for you! Come and have fun with music, rhymes, tickles and bounces. Bring a blanket and let us introduce you and your baby to a variety of board books and activities.

Time for 2s and 3s

For toddlers and preschoolers ready for a longer, more active program and their adult caregivers. Develop pre-literacy skills with books, songs, games, rhymes, movies, crafts and creative play.

Creation Station

Glue and sparkles and paper, oh my! Join us for our Creation Station program to turn your imagination into art! We'll supply all the creative materials you'll need to make something dazzling. All ages.

Caregiver Code-along

Children and caregivers work together using the Library's fleet of mobile devices, robots and some easily accessible online coding tools. We'll cover the basics of coding and introduce computational thinking. Each session will focus on activities that can be continued outside of the Library.
All technology and learning tools are provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own devices.

Creating With Code

This session will spotlight the fundamentals of coding and explore its applications. Topics will include game-building, basic animation, simple programmin, and robotics. Learners will use Swift, Scratch and Jave, while working with our fleet of robots (Ozobot, Dash and Dot, Cue, Sphero).
Different topics will take place on different platforms, but all PC, Mac and iPad needs are provided.

Therapy Tails

Read to a dog, hang out with a dog or hug a dog - the Therapy Tails dogs are ready for everything. Girl and dogPerfect for children who are nervous around dogs, looking for some sensory input, need practice reading out loud or just want to hang out and relax with these furry friends.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a weekly reading support program that gives children one-to-one reading practice with a teen volunteer. Buddies have fun reading together and enjoy activities that build confidence and a love of reading.

Kidding Around With Photoshop

Learn image editing basics using a variety of software and tools, beginning with very basic resizing and alterations and moving to more advanced layering and filters. Projects are age-appropriate and will give attendees the skills and inspiration necessary to advance further. Ages 8 years and up.

Building in 3D

Design and create 3D objects with the Library's Media lab's host of software and tools. Explore design concepts and prototyping, plan and build your 3D objects, and then print them with our 3D printers. Projects will focus on fun and friendly themes with results that can be put to use by learners of all ages. Ages 8 years and up.
Please be aware that prints will not be ready by the session's end.

St. John Ambulance Home Alone

The Home Alone program teaches participants how to deal with emergencies and other potentially serious situations as well as phone calls and visitors, recognize hazards and follow home safety procedures. They will also learn first aid basics, healthy eating, fire safety and how and when to use 911. Ages 9 years and up.

St. John Ambulance - Babysitting Basics

Developed by a team of child care professionals, trained babysitters, St. John Ambulance instructors and parents, this course teaches new babysitters the skills necessary to care for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. It emphasizes safety, dealing with emergencies and first aid basics.

Piano Lessons

Free Beginners’ Piano Lessons!

Start your child’s musical journey at the library with accomplished teen pianist Salony! Kids will learn to play piano in a cooperative, fun group, Monday afternoons every week. They don’t even need a piano at home to practice on – the library has pianos and keyboards they can use as often as they want!

Ages 6-8 years with no piano playing experience (Children under age 8 must have a parent or guardian remain in the library during the lesson).
